What does a backlink checker measure?
A backlink checker helps you understand which external pages reference a website or URL. GIMSEO summarizes the backlink profile first, then exposes individual source pages so you can inspect the link, anchor text, destination and source strength.
Key backlink metrics
- Backlinks: the number of discovered live links pointing to the analyzed target.
- Referring domains: the number of domains from which links have been discovered.
- Dofollow and nofollow: the distribution of links by their follow attribute.
- Source strength: the provider's 0–100 rank for the target or referring page.
- Broken backlinks: links whose target currently responds with a broken status according to the provider index.
How to use the report
Start with referring-domain diversity and the follow ratio. Then inspect strong referring pages, anchor text patterns and the pages receiving the most links. Links from relevant, authoritative sites are generally more useful than large volumes of unrelated or low-quality links.
Can I check a competitor's backlinks?
Yes. Enter another public domain in domain mode to inspect the backlink profile available in the index.
Why can another backlink tool show different numbers?
Backlink platforms use different crawlers, indexes, update schedules, canonicalization rules and duplicate handling. Different totals are therefore normal.
Does GIMSEO find every backlink?
No backlink database can guarantee complete coverage of the web. The report reflects the links available in the connected provider index at analysis time.
